What Can You Do During Autumn?

There are a lot of people who are not thrilled when autumn arrives. Not only does the temperature start to drop, but kids and young adults alike have to return to school as well.

Though the weather gets a little colder during this season, there are still plenty of things you can do outside. If you are a citizen of Macomb, IL, these are a few things you can do to pass the time during the autumn months.

One of the best things about autumn is seeing the leaves change colors as the months go by. Macomb’s Lakeview Nature Center is home to 350 acres of woodland and prairie systems, making it a great place to visit during this season. Exploring the location’s prairie during autumn gives you the chance to see different kinds of plant life and wildlife.

In addition, the nature center hosts a wide selection of programs during the months of autumn. The autumn season kicks off with an assortment of activities, including prairie walks and making s’mores. You can also take part in nature workshops, which involve creating pictures and other items using natural materials.

Check Out Argyle Lake State Park

Another good place to check out the autumn foliage is Argyle Lake State Park in Colchester, IL. Only seven miles from Macomb, this park features five miles of walking trails that take you through luxurious forests. This offers a great chance to see the leaves change color during the autumn season.

Besides looking at the foliage, you can also take advantage of the fishing, boating, and picnicking facilities on offer. Other things to check out include an archery range, a mountain biking trail, and camping sites. If you are looking to have a relaxing day outside this autumn, plan a trip to this park soon.

Watch a Music Show

At the end of October, Macomb hosts a selection of music shows for residents to attend. Many of these shows are free, so if you want to go out and do something without spending a lot of money, you should attend one of these performances.

If you are looking to get into the Halloween spirit, you should attend the 20th annual Halloween Children’s Concert. This holiday performance will take place at the COFAC Recital Hall at Western Illinois University, and starts at 6:00 p.m. on October 29th. You can also attend the WIU Brass Ensemble show, which takes place at 7:30 p.m. on October 30th.

Both shows are free to the public, so check them out if you have the time.

Ghouls Night Out at Nostalgia

If you are looking for a fun Halloween event this autumn, you should consider attending Ghouls Night Out. Taking place on October 19th at Nostalgia on the Square, this event gives attendees the chance to shop for a selection of Halloween-themed items. The store also sells different types of candy, so you do not have to wait until the end of the month to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The event also hosts a hat crafting contest, and the person who makes the best witch’s hat can win prizes. Even if you do not win the contest, you could win discounts on items offered at the store. Drinks and appetizers will be offered near the conclusion of the event, so you should stick around for as long as you can.

Take your pick, and have some fun this autumn.
